In the Studio

The Copperfox Welsh Cob has come a long way since my last post. He's not quite ready to paint yet, but he's getting close. Finishing up prepping is one of the most tedious times in the customizing process for me. All the pieces are where I want them, and all the sculpting work is essentially done. I'll think everything is good to go, only to find another tiny place that wasn't quite smooth when I spray the primer.

This guy is very close though, and I hope to be able to start painting him by the end of the week. I really want to finish him in time to enter the Copperfox customs contest.

Another horse that's not quite so far along is this American Pharoah I'm resculpting. He's an entirely different model from the jumping mule you might have seen in some of my other posts.

This was my first time using expanding foam to fill in a model. It worked, I just don't really think I prefer it over aluminum foil. The foam is very sticky when wet, and I'm glad I decided to wear gloves. It cuts easily, though shaping the foam still takes a while and makes a huge mess.

He's currently a bit further along than this photo shows. I finished shaping the foam and covered it roughly with epoxy. He also has a Lonesome Glory head now. Once I'm done with the Cob I'll hopefully be able to get this guy finished before the middle of June.
