In the Studio - Spots and Sparkles

I've just realized I haven't done a post here in over a month. August ended up being a really busy for me, especially since I managed to do a trip to see the eclipse, but hopefully I'll have a bit more time to work on horses now.

Hopefully I'll also have some more substantial posts finished soon, but for now, here's a quick update on the two Truffles I'm painting:

The bay leopard appaloosa artist's proof is slowly coming along. This is a picture of what he looked like once I finished the layout of his spots:

Next I went over him with a thin layer of warm white. Now I'm going back over the spots with varying shades of black and brown, leaving a thin halo around a lot of the spots. This is what he looked like this morning:

The unicorn's body color is almost done. For a touch of sparkle (because I think all unicorns need at least a touch of sparkle) I'm incorporating some interference colors. I'm not going to go too overboard (although it's tempting) I'm only adding just enough to give him a nice sheen:

It's unfortunately too cloudy for the sparkle to show up well today. What's left of Hurricane Harvey is making its way into the area so this was the best I could do between bouts of rain.
